I qualified as a hypnotherapist and meditation teacher in 2016 and began teaching meditation classes in Truro and Newquay, Cornwall, immediately after.   • A year ago, I was sat in a café, very much crying into my coffee.  I had just run away from going into a Santas Grotto with my wife and two children, due to the anxiety of being in there with other people, and not having control of the situation.

Structure of Each Hypnotherapy Session

First Half - Coaching and Education (30-45 minutes) We’ll explore the neuroscience behind your challenges and discuss practical strategies for change. You’ll learn about neuroplasticity, stress management, and brain chemistry. These techniques build throughout your sessions, creating powerful momentum. I’ll also teach you some powerful yogic techniques to release fight or flight and cope with the challenges of daily life. We may use some EFT tapping to help release blocks further. Many clients take notes to remember their “toolkit” of skills.

Second Half - Hypnosis (30-45 minutes) You’ll settle comfortably, and I’ll guide you into a peaceful hypnotic trance. This daydream-like state allows your conscious and subconscious mind to work together, absorbing therapeutic metaphors and new life strategies.

Each session lasts approximately 60-90 minutes in total.

How Many Hypnotherapy Sessions Will I Need?

Most clients achieve excellent results within 10-12 sessions of hypnotherapy in Cornwall. This timeframe allows your brain to genuinely restructure and embed new patterns, creating lasting change rather than temporary fixes.

You’ll typically notice improvements after your first few sessions, with momentum building progressively as we work together.

Typical Session Requirements:

  • Anxiety, depression, insomnia: Significant improvement usually happens in 6-8 sessions, lasting change usually occurs after 10-12 sessions. Some clients like to ‘pop back’ for a top-up hypnotherapy session and check-in every now and then after that.

  • Phobias: Often resolved in 3-4 sessions.

  • Weight management: May require slightly longer, as we will clear the root cause first and then look at weight management and body confidence techniques.

Weekly sessions produce the best results, as consistency helps your brain establish new neural pathways more effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • After working with hundreds of clients since 2017, I can tell you that everyone experiences deep relaxation during hypnosis, even those who felt nervous initially. Most people describe it as soothing waves of calm washing over them.

    You might hear every word I say, or your mind might drift to other thoughts (this is actually your brain sorting and problem-solving). Some people experience light trance while others go deeper, but the depth doesn’t affect results, so there’s nothing to worry about.

    Hypnosis is a completely natural state you already experience daily when absorbed in a film, driving on autopilot, or daydreaming.

  • At the start of each session, we’ll chat about your progress, but once the hypnosis begins, you simply relax and listen. As a solution-focused hypnotherapist in Cornwall, I never regress clients to past events or ask questions during trance. You won’t accidentally reveal anything or relive difficult memories.

  • Solution-focused hypnotherapy is incredibly positive. Negative side effects are extremely rare. Occasionally, clients feel emotional when they first slow down and focus on themselves, but I have excellent therapeutic and yogic tools to support you through this.

  • While some hypnotherapists offer single sessions, their results tend to be temporary. Your brain needs time and repetition to establish that new patterns are safe and beneficial, making them your new default.

    For example, one weight-loss session might create a temporary chocolate aversion, but if stress levels rise, old eating patterns often return. My approach helps you manage stress itself while making thoughtful decisions about food, creating genuine, lasting transformation.
